Research on Human Trafficking & Systemic Barriers

Nancy’s Master’s research focused on human trafficking within Roma communities in Romania, examining how minority status intersects with other vulnerabilities to create heightened trafficking risks. Her thesis challenged prevailing narratives by showing that trafficking in marginalized communities isn’t an inherent cultural issue, but rather the result of systemic discrimination, inadequate social services, and poverty. These insights shape her work today—helping her advocate for comprehensive social services, identify systemic barriers to care, and ensure culturally-sensitive approaches when working with survivors.

Academic & Linguistic Expertise

Nancy holds a Master’s in Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies from Ohio State University and a Bachelor’s in Political Science from Miami University. She has honed her expertise in geopolitics, foreign policy, and critical theory and speaks advanced Russian and conversational Romanian—skills that enhance her ability to work with survivors from diverse backgrounds.

Beyond the Office

Outside of work, you might find Nancy buried in a historical novel, mastering yet another foreign language, or engaging in a heated debate on international relations (in any of her three languages, of course). She’s also the recipient of multiple Foreign Language Area Studies Fellowships and other academic honors.

Commitment to Justice

At the core of her work, Nancy believes that law isn’t just about statutes and case files—it’s about people, justice, and amplifying the voices of those too often silenced.
