Precision Drafting
As a former drafter of Ohio’s laws at the Ohio legislative services commission, Eliza Bauler-O’Grady brings the power of precision to our team.
Eliza’s experience drafting laws for the Ohio legislature gives her unique insight into how to draft usable documents for your family or business.
Eliza Bauler-O'Grady: Precision and Passion
Eliza O’Grady started her career as an Assistant Prosecutor at the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office, where she gained valuable trial experience and learned the ins and outs of taking testimony in the courtroom.
But she soon discovered her real passion lies in legal drafting. It wasn’t long before Ms. O’Grady began working for the Ohio Legislative Service Commission, where she drafted laws for Ways and Means & Economic Development Division. While there, she learned to organize and draft complex legislation on topics important to businesses and the public.
At Hilton Parker LLC, Ms. O’Grady puts those skills to work for you. When working on challenging litigation topics, she often analyzes how statutory schemes are arranged and organized, looking for the purpose behind the law when the language itself is ambiguous.
Giving back to the community is important to Ms. O’Grady, and so she works equally hard when drafting wills for individuals and family in Columbus, Ohio. She also puts her experience with the tax code (as well as her knowledge of personal finance) to work when helping business owners draft key documents.
A Keen Eye for Detail
Eliza Bauler-O’Grady began her career as a paralegal at Manley Deas Kochalski, LLC, where she managed hundreds of files. Her time as a paralegal instilled in her the importance of working diligently and keeping track of deadlines–something she routinely does today, keeping the other attorneys at Hilton Parker LLC on task.
As a Law Clerk for Zach Klein at the Columbus City Attorney’s Office, Ms. O’Grady drafted motions and responses, developing her legal writing skills. And as a prosecutor for Delaware County, Ms. O’Grady had to learn a brisk “just-the-facts” style to get through multiple trials in a single day.
Eliza’s externship with Chief Judge Algenon L. Marbley at the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio was a particularly formative experience. Working for any federal judge would be an honor, but Judge Marbley in particular is known for his well-reasoned and thorough opinions on difficult or novel legal issues. Judge Marbley’s genius has left a lasting impression on Ms. O’Grady that gives her unique insights today, and she strives to emulate his meticulous style when drafting arguments.
At the Ohio Legislative Service Commission, Eliza drafted and analyzds legislation on taxation, economic development, and eminent domain. Her role required precision, as errors in legislative drafting can have wide-reaching effects.
Working with Families and Small Businesses
Eliza is passionate about putting her skills to work for individuals and small business owners in the Columbus, Ohio area. Her diverse background has equipped her to tackle the problems that face you as an entrepreneur.
Her experience at the Ohio Legislative Service Commission honed her ability to draft precise, unambiguous language – a crucial skill in creating airtight wills and contracts. The attention to detail required in legislative drafting translates well to carefully outlining terms in business agreements and articulating specific bequests in wills.
Eliza’s time at the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office taught her to manage a large volume of cases efficiently, a skill that proves invaluable when juggling multiple client needs in a small business practice. Her ability to review cases thoroughly and determine appropriate actions mirrors the process of assessing a startup’s needs and drafting suitable incorporation documents.
Her externship with Chief Judge Marbley exposed her to a wide range of legal issues, broadening her understanding of how different areas of law intersect. This comprehensive view is particularly useful when advising small businesses on contracts that need to comply with various regulations.
While working at the Columbus City Attorney’s Office, Ms. O’Grady gained experience in negotiation and conflict resolution. These skills are essential when mediating between business partners drafting operating agreements or family members discussing estate plans.
Taking Document Drafting to the Next Level
